The strike began this morning with picket lines in Trenton, Brockville, and Kingston to support the 120 workers, all members of the Labourer’s International Union of North America (LiUNA local 183) in Kingston.
The issue is “fair wages” with the Kingston workers making $14.97 less an hour than their counterparts in Trenton and $7.28 less than those in Ottawa.
The strike will affect projects including with Akman Construction, ENR, Gordon Barr Construction, Environmentall, Mulroney, Taggart, Tomlinson, and VJ McMullin.
No work was underway at the $57 million City of Kingston project at Front Road (Elevator Bay) this morning.
