Keeping it local -- options for items you no longer need
# 2 in a series -- The Goodway
The Goodway store and donation space at 844 Division Street near Elliott Avenue.
The Goodway is a locally-owned thrift store with a “keep it local” commitment.
It offers clothes, shoes, household items, appliances, toys, jewellery, etc. for sale at reasonable prices.
“Other stores ask $16 for a T-shirt,” says General Manager Mark Wensing. “We’re totally different.”
The Goodway is set up to serve the community keeping prices low and making life more affordable for people on limited budgets and anyone who enjoys finding new-to-them items.
Every Tuesday, the store has a social time for shoppers 55+ with coffee and cookies and an invitation to socialize while shopping.
Wensing appreciates The Goodway’s flexibility and philosophy, and the ability to help where they can. “No corporation. No hoops.” “We can have a sale tomorrow if we want.”
When there are proceeds to distribute, the money goes to local charities such as Girls Inc. and the Partners in Mission Food Bank.
This Saturday - a second location is opening in Kingston’s west end
On Saturday, July 5 another The Goodway store is opening on Bath Road and Tanner Drive. For now, it will only be open for shopping and not for donations.
Wensing describes the new store as “very boutique. It is black and white and looks upscale. Prices aren’t.”
Everyone is welcome to shop at and donate to The Goodway.
