Keeping it local -- options for items you no longer need
# 1 of a series -- Kingston Symphony Orchestra
Kingston Symphony Orchestra volunteers Linda MacKinnon and Tom Pynn sorting book donations at the Warehouse.
Wednesday morning, June 18, 2025: A steady stream of people arrived at the Kingston Symphony Orchestra Warehouse at 785 Sir John A. Macdonald Boulevard, Unit 7 A to donate boxes of vinyl records, DVDs, books, Christmas decor, art, and jewellery.
A Queen’s professor retiring from the university brought part of her collection of feminist and queer history books. Someone else brought opera LPs. Another box had a small ceramic Christmas tree. The table accepting items was constantly being emptied to make room for more.
The Warehouse is open from 10 am to noon for three more days in June: Saturday, the 21st, Wednesday, the 25th and Saturday, the 28th. There are other donation days in September.
The 200 Symphony volunteers — and they are looking for others to join them — hold a Book Fair, a Vinyl Record sale, and All Things Christmas, Gifts and Art Sale on various dates through the fall.
The Symphony website has the donation and sale schedule.
Money raised supports the Symphony as well as providing awards to young musicians.
To get to the Warehouse turn north off Princess Street and right at the first opportunity. Follow the winding road.
This is a great idea for a series. Looking forward to hearing more options for both donations and volunteer opportunities.
